Dear Margaret.
The Sierra Leone Civil War: The war between the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and the Sierra Leone itself which lasted for about a decade. This is the subject I want to write about to you today. By reading your story, I became interested in your experience and eventually had some questions I wanted to ask you.
Firstly, when you and your family evacuated into the wilderness after a rebel attack in 1998, what were the first thoughts that went through your mind? Was it your family or the determination to survive or..?
My next question is that what made you want to leave the safety of the wilderness? Did you truely believe that the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group had come and secured the village? What factors made you believe the fact so strongly that you were willing to leave the hiding and risk your life on returning to home?
Lastly, in the end of the war, you said that you have forgiven the rebels with a quote, "putting them in jail won't bring my foot back or help my baby." Were you truly forgiving the rebels after they've smashed your legs, destroyed your carrier as a trader and caused severe handicaps to your babies? Or was it just a sign of despair?
Your response will help me greatly with my comprehension of what it would be like being part of the conflict.
Thank you.
